I tried on a physical PC on that subnet too and the same thing happens. A colleague thinks it may be to do with Network discovery not being enabled, but i don't think that is an issue. At the moment i only have AD discovery. I'm very sorry to keep writing so much, but i feel quite close to solving this and any help is very welcome. Do i need to reinstall WDS on the new server to bring it back, or can i add it manually? I think this is now OK. How do i close this thread? The solution was short-sighted.
I pulled wdsnbp. This leads me to believe it is not the correct wdsnbp. It seems that error message about not starting in a timely fashion is not consistent. I'm able to configure WDS without getting that error message now. This happened to me as well today. Go figure. I restarted WDS and it booted again, but then aborted. Here we go again I suppose. This is the first time this has happened, but it's frustrating considering I finally got it working after two weeks of troubleshooting only to have the files disappear.
